August’s Story

August is the quintessential golden! He had lived with the same family for most of his 12 years but due to their own health, they were no longer able to care for him. Neuse River didn’t hesitate to accept this senior boy. He had been well loved and accepted all the changes to his life with typical golden gusto, enjoying all the attention.

But soon after his arrival he began to have some tummy trouble. Given all the changes to his life the previous days that was understandable. But the typical remedies did little to improve his condition. Testing indicated pancreatitis but because of his age and condition, he had to be admitted to the emergency vet hospital for continuous care and monitoring.

During their exam, they also found a mass in his abdomen. After he stabilized, we sent August to another specialty hospital for an ultrasound. They found a “free floating” mass in his abdomen. It isn’t truly attached to any specific organs, but of course could still be cancer.

On a positive note, he returned to his foster home and has been doing great! He has a spring in his step and is eating great! We will keep you posted on his progress!
