Lacey

Age: 5.5 yr

Weight: 60 lb

Lacey is a sweet, shy, calm, low-to-medium energy dog. She was housebroken very quickly and is very fastidious. She loves her crate and is reliable within the home – I leave her crate door open all the time now so that she can go in and out. She has barked once in the month or so since she became a NRGRR pup and that was to let me know that she had to go out immediately. She does not chew on anything that is not given to her for chewing (doesn’t seem to have that inclination) and only begs for food when she is being fed. Her “lovies” (her Lambchop and “hotdog”) are her babies which she checks on every time she enters her crate. Lacey prefers the bare pan of her crate “unencumbered”, she takes the crate liner and pushes it up against the sides of the crate along with any other towels or blankets so that she can rest her head – it is too cute!

Lacey loves getting physical attention and has come quite far - from shying away from all humans who were not “attached” to a dog by a leash, to going up to anyone who walks by to get love. Her favorite activity is getting love and LOVES being cuddled morning, noon and night…we have to have a love fest first thing in the morning and last thing at night! She does very well when being brushed and responds well to a gentle touch. She does now comes for love all the time. So far she shows a small amount of interest in balls, but not too sure what to do with them.

Lacey is getting used to being on leash, we have slowly increased the lengths of her walks and she is now becoming a champ…unless it is too hot! She loves critters, so is distracted by them when walking – she is learning to not pull and getting better every day. If Lacey had a yard with a fence she would be a happy camper – stalking rabbits and birds and squirrels, however, spending time with her humans on a walk is probably on the top of her list.

Lacey is not fond of stairs. She will go up and down short flights of stairs, however she is pretty scared about going down long flights of stairs – this would need to be worked on. High value treats do not seem to be a good enough reason to go down the stairs! (Climbing up the stairs is easy peasy - going down needs work).

Lacey will continue to do well if she is with someone who is home most of the time. She does very well alone, but likes her human(s) close by. Routine is important for her – walks, feeding time and cuddling time…repeat!

Lacey would do well in a calm home – she is not little kid tested other than when at the park she finds quiet little kids interesting, but more active kids she seems to shy away from. When she first came to us, she would not go up to any men willingly, she now does this all the time. Sudden movements scare her and she does startle easily – but I think in time this will ease.

Lacey is looking to find her forever humans who excited to see her personality emerge from her shyness while being willing to show her how to be a dog and teach her how to play and thrive.
