Maximus

Age: 14 yr

Weight: 43 lb

Well, hello there, I’m pleased to meet you.  My name is Maximus.  I am very friendly, I love my humans and I’m looking for my furever family.  Would that possibly be you?  Don’t let my age scare you because even though I’m a senior guy, I have plenty of energy.  My foster Mom says I remind her of the energizer bunny because my tail wags 90mph. Also I wiggle all over when I’m happy, when I want attention and especially at mealtime which is when I shift my wiggle and wags into high gear.  I will also start talking to you about an hour before mealtime to let you know it’s almost time to eat which is my favorite time of day.  When you put my food down I will sit and wait until you tell me OK.

I also love treats and will sit for them and take them very gently specially when asked.  I’m what you might call a Velcro dog because I’m always close at hand and will follow you around the house.  I like to be in the middle of whatever is going on, I’m nosy that way.  If there’s nothing happening then I mostly just lounge around and stay very close to my people.

I get along with all dogs.  My foster Mom has 5 dogs including yours truly.  As I’ve gotten older, I don’t care for them getting in my face and I let them know in dog talk not to do that otherwise I get along fine with them.  I will sit right next to them and take treats very nicely waiting my turn without any kind of squabble.  I would be fine as an only dog or with other dogs.  I enjoy going on walks as well as wandering around the fenced backyard on my own.

I have a job at my foster Mom’s house.  When she’s preparing all the meals for us my job is to lick the spoon after she finishes mixing the canned food in with the kibble for some of the dogs.  I take my job very seriously and watch closely while she’s mixing and the second the spoon comes out of the pan I’m on top of things doing my job with gusto.  When I’m finished with that spoon it looks like it just came out of the dishwasher.

I would love to have a fenced yard to play in.  I love, love, love chasing tennis balls.  I will do this as long as you will throw them for me.  I guarantee you will get tired long before I will.

I’m a very good companion and don’t bark much unless I see or hear something outside that I don’t think should be there, then I’ll bark to let my people know what is going on.  I’ll also bark a little when I’m left alone but then I settle down and wait or my people to come back then I’ll bark to say “hello I’ve missed you and I’m glad you are home”.

I am house trained and have very good house manners.  I will let you know when I have to go potty by trying to get your attention or pawing at you and when you get up I will run straight to the door.  I sleep through the night and rarely have to go out during the night but if I do have to, I will bark to let you know.  I can be left alone and don’t bother anything in the house or get on the furniture and I’ll be super happy to see you when you get back.

From the foster:  Maximus has several fatty tumors that don’t seem to bother him at all.  Since he is an older guy, he does need to have someone home during the day for frequent potty breaks and needs a fenced yard as he likes to sniff at things and wander around during the day on his own.  He loves people and would be OK with older children (at least 10-12 or older) but younger children make him nervous.  He also has plenty of energy especially for a 14yo guy.

Maximus is available as a senior to senior adoption.
