Solo

Age: 2 yr

Weight: 70 lb

Are you looking for a quiet, well-mannered, affectionate companion who wants to be your yoga and brewery buddy?  Solo might be that adorable 4-legged friend that you’ve been looking for!  He is sweet and with your direction, he is good at meeting strangers and other dogs.  He will settle at an outdoor cafe and he walks great with a pack of dogs.  He is so sweet  and is rock solid on basic commands (sit, stay, down, come) so he is an easy dog to welcome into your home - IF you are able to manage his environment - so,

Solo is looking for the following in his next home:

  • NO KIDS:  He likes kids and can meet them in public, but should not live with kids due to resource guarding that is best managed in an adult-only home

  • Friendly resident dog who likes to play or a no dog home is fine, too

  • Humans who have a consistent routine and practice positive training

  • Training - he’s made great progress so we are looking for someone able to manage his environment and continue to work on teaching him alternative behavior to resource guarding.  You can work with one of our trainers!

Health:  Excellent

Weight :  70 lbs.

Housetrained:  Reliably house-trained.  No accidents

Personality Trait :  Very well behaved - knows basic commands (sit, stay, down, come), mellow, content to chew on his bone, smart & responsive.  Solo is uncertain in new situations but once comfortable, he is super sweet and super affectionate with his people!  Why is he in rescue - well he has a history of Resource Guarding.

Interaction with other dogs : Solo LOVES polite and respectful furry friends with proper introductions! He has always lived with another dog - even in fostering - and finds comfort and courage from his doggy sibling.  He LOVES to run and play.  He takes treats nicely right next to the resident dog and shares his toys after earning his trust.

Interaction with cats :  Not tested but he lived in a home with a bunny.

Child requirements : No children because of his resource guarding tendencies.

Fence requirements :  Not required - he’s great on leash!

General activity level : Medium to Low - he will initially sprint out the door and run and wrestle with the resident dog but he settles downs and naps right next to you for most of the day.  However, he has the endurance for a 4 mile walk and would love to sniff new areas!

Work Schedule best suited for :  Any but ideally someone who can provide a mid-day potty break;  he is crate trained for meals, bedtime and when you leave the house.

Leash manners : Walks nicely - non-reactive (no barking, lunging)

Car Ride:  Great - settles down for the entire trip; Recently went on a 5 hr road trip to the mountains!

Type of training required: He needs management of his environment while he continues to work on his conditioning to alternative choices to resource guarding.  He does well with a consistent routine, structure and prevention of getting things he could consider his.  He is a perfect house guest with management of his environment.
